Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Mainly the rainy monsoon season it happens between June to August in Kathmandu. The time throughout the day on Friday into the office room going nowhere because of raining got too hectic. Torrential rain in the last 24 hours has created havoc across the country, turning roads into rivers and disrupting the movement of vehicles. The incessant rainfall caused the Bagmati, Bishnumati, Hanumante and Balkhu rivers in Kathmandu valley to swell. Security personnel used the boat to rescue people. The situation was the same in Bhaktapur, where the swollen Hanumante River submerged areas.

Today is Saturday the raining has been stopped and decided to visit Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur is an ancient city in the east corner of the Kathmandu Valley, it is located 13 km from the capital city, Kathmandu. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is an area of cultural and historical value, one of the UNESCO Heritage sites enlisted in the valley. It is a pagoda-style of temples, mostly dedicated to Hindu gods and goddesses built of brick and wood. The square is the most charming architectural showpieces of the valley as it highlights the ancient arts of Nepal. Traditional Nepali culture, custom and unique arts of wooden and potteries have been preserved. Nyatpola Temple, Statue of King Bhupatindra Malla, and Fifty-five windowed palace are the major attractive monuments of Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

Almost four years after the earthquake of 2015, the Bhaktapur Durbar Square still bears the reminders of the devastating quakes. It shows signs that the reconstruction of structures damaged by the quake is underway. The quake had badly damaged the Durbar square, few of them stand intact and do not need reconstruction. One of them is the fifty-five window Palace because of that was renovated just before the quake, and it did not suffer any damage. The rest of the monuments are still under construction. Hope all the monuments will be reconstructed soon. Many people are seen enjoying the view of the reconstruction site of the Durbar area, on the other hand where visitors and tourists are always busy taking photographs of them.

Bhaktapur city is also famous for a special type of Yogurt called Juju-dhau, and the famous pottery square. You know the yogurt is served in mud bowls made in the pottery squares. Pottery is a process to make the pot by a special kind of clay.
