We believe that volunteers would share their knowledge and skills in playful manner. Teaching English is a basic to approach and communicate to community and to help the children. English vocabulary, basic writing and coordination of games the volunteers can start up, and also, there will more comfortable to live with children and interact in daily basis at volunteer house.
School going children in remote places, their situation is terribly miserable. Public schools in such areas have no at all the standard education. Private-run schools are relatively better off than a public school particularly in English, but thing is that private schools only matters to money and accessibility. Public schools are going towards country sides in poor infrastructure, resources and programs. Both private and public schools requires programmatic activities. Volunteers can organize programs by creating low- cost teaching materials for the schools as well as health check up of students. Other activities such as sanitation and sports are important to children that volunteers can set programs themselves. As volunteers of teaching English you shouldn’t necessarily be a qualified and experienced teacher.
As a volunteer teaching English, you have to teach in a primary level school. Local teachers guide and assist you. Major task of teaching English is to boost students English speaking skills. Each day you will have to work alongside of local teachers, learning from and assisting them. You can create play method to encourage your students which encourages speaking abilities. You will get a chance to teach other subjects on your skills and interests. Generally you have to get involved in teaching work as following.
You will be picked up at the airport by VfN staff upon your arrival and taken to the Hotel. You are provided a day induction which will include basic information about your placement. This is a great chance to assimilate with other volunteers and get to know the local team. Included in orientation:
The project fee include we organize accommodation that will be modest, but comfortable, safe and close of your placement. In orientation period you will be placed at a guest house or hotel in Kathmandu. During the volunteering the living condition will be far from luxurious but you will get own single room or share with group friends. Host family are always supportive, welcoming and caring for volunteers. The accommodation have running water and electricity is sometime unreliable. Squat toilet is common in Nepal and western toilets might be unavailable in Host family or hostel. WiFi is available but we recommend to get SIM card with data package to keep in touch with family. This is an excellent opportunity to stay with Nepalese family in order to learn and experience the way of life. On the some of our Programs you can choose the accommodation option. This includes host family, hostel or guest house. We highly recommend in winter season to pack warm cloths and sleeping bag.
You are given Nepali meals three times in a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner in the placement. Dal, Bhat, and Tarkari (pulses, rice and curry) are staple food for most Nepalis. Tarkari is vegetables curry, pickle, and occasionally meat curry also will be provided to you. Additional foods, you should self afford. For drinking water, you are given two mineral bottles (one liter of each bottle) in a day, or you can buy self of which total cost may comes to be about US $5 dollar in a week. If any of you have special dietary habits and requirement, please let us know on the time of you do apply so that we could make arrangement for. We do our best to well taking care of volunteers. Meanwhile, you should not expect to eat as you normally do at home. We highly appreciate the flexibility of volunteers.
On this program location, volunteers can make a great experience of vibrant city of Kathmandu, as well as rural life of surrounding the valley and neighbor districts. On the placement volunteers will stay with local host families or hostel in the Kathmandu Valley. We have partnered with Government and private schools where our volunteers can work.
The program fee listed below include the cost of accommodation and meals on volunteering duration. Also the cost cover your pick up and drop off, sightseeing of major heritage sites in the town. Though flight ticket, travel insurance, additional foods and snacks, personal extra spending money and excursions are not included on this program fees.

Why do I need to pay for volunteering?
Many of volunteers are initially surprised when they have to pay for volunteering. Because, all of are trying to contribute their time to help others. However, as a NGO Volunteer for Nepal do not get any grant or fund to run our volunteer programs from Government. We are completely relying on the program fees that paid by you, our volunteers and interns. Therefore, the program fee is vital to cover the all expenses. In addition, the cost covers volunteers’ expenses such as accommodation, food, airport pickup/drop-off, transportation, 24/7 assistant and long-term support for the project you work on.
What should be the age of volunteers?
The minimum eligible age of volunteer should be 18 years. If you are below 18 year (16 or 17) we do need a consent letter of parents. There is no age limitation for maximum age to those who are mentally and physically fit enough to travel and work. Our projects run all year round and most are available for one week to longer. Even though most of our volunteers are between 18 to 25 years, a rapidly many number of retired people are taking part as well.
How safe is Nepal in general for volunteering?
Nepal is a country of diverse cultures and practices, where people treat to guest like God. In Sanskrit ‘Atithi Devo Bhavah’ means guest is like God. However, safety of our volunteers is primary concern. We have apparently supervised a standards for risk management on each program. You can feel confidently safe where you are placed. We will be remain a part of your every step of the way throughout the duration of your volunteering, so if at any time you need further assistance, it is available to you 24/7.

How do I apply to get Visa to Nepal?
Tribhuvan International Airport is the only international airport of Nepal. TIA under Department of Immigration has been facilitating tourists flying to Nepal by providing Visa on Arrival. ‘On Arrival’ visa procedure is prompt and simple. You can expect some queues during peak Tourist season. If you wish to skip those queues, you can also consider getting Visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions stationed abroad prior to your arrival. If you have obtained visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions, then you must enter Nepal within six months from the visa issued date. Your total stay is counted starting from the day you enter into Nepal.

When do I have to pay full payment?
Being relates as a local volunteering organization, we don’t need to pay before arriving in Nepal. We don’t accept registration fee as well. Just confirm your booking and send us your arrival information in advance so that we could facilitate your airport pickup. After meeting with program coordinator in office you have to pay the programs fees.
How long do the programs last?
We offer projects ranging from one week to three months. You can decide yourself exactly how long you want to do for. However, if you would like to do for longer, then you can add on as many as you like. In case, if you are not having good time what you looking for then we will have option to change placement and project. There is no mandatory that once volunteer signed for a particular project and have to be there for entire time.
What vaccination will I need?
This is completely depends on you. If any you have had vaccination in the past. We recommend you for consulting with your doctor before travelling to Nepal. Doctor will advise on what vaccinations you may need or not.
Do I need to know the local language?
In general, you don’t need to know the local language as English is generally spoken by staffs in most project locations. However, a local language helps you to bond better with your host family and the community where you are working with. Therefore, we help you to learn basic level of local language in orientation period.
What cost do I need to consider? Or how much do I need extra money?
Literally this is very difficult to answer and ultimately it depends on the person. Program fee include all expenses throughout the duration of your volunteering however, you may go on trips to local places of interest during weekend holiday. You can also get travel opportunity once when your project ends if you wish. So these extras might include socializing with other volunteers and locals, buying snacks and gifts, eating at cafes or restaurants, transport and weekend travel etc.
You can carry cash for personal expenses for a fortnight $100 approx. However, ATM’s are easy access available which accept international credit or debit card.
How can I communicate with my family back home?
Nepal’s information technology is still in its nascent stage, even though the country has made great strides in the last few decades, especially with the increased penetration of mobile and internet. So you will have easy access to communicate with your families and friends to home via mobile phone and email internet.
Will my phone work? Can I buy a SIM card upon arrival in Nepal?
Mobile phones are now widely used almost everywhere. You can bring your mobile phones from home and use in Nepal. The mobile set should be unlocked. You can buy Nepali SIM card. Mainly two of the Nepal Telecom and NCell companies telephone service are available. The reliability of phone signals will vary of course in Nepal, don’t worry we will be happy to give advice regarding which company networks work best on project location. It costs 2$ with few minutes talk time and data service. You need to have a copy of passport size photo and a Xerox copy of your passport.
Can I talked to people who have volunteered before, if yes then how?
Literally as a newly established organization we don’t have many volunteers. Only few numbers have done volunteering, however, we do encourage volunteers to contact with former volunteers participants. We will provide their contact no or email upon request. All of our previous volunteers are as an ambassador who deliver message to other who are interested.
