Nepal is a poorest and least devolved country in the world, so that Nepalese children do not have access to their all rights. They live mired in poverty,  malnutrition and difficulties circumstances. Half of the Nepalese people live below the poverty line who can’t cope their families needs. As a result children deprive of education, abandon by parents. And work as child labor at hotels, restaurants, factories and trash collector etc. Such disadvantaged children need to draw attention the opportunity to further their education.

Childcare is a program conducted at orphanage that offers volunteers a platform to contribute by extending helping hand for the needy orphans to enhance English language in engaging them to educational activities. Volunteer should treat children as their own siblings. We strongly encourage volunteers to involve in day-to-day work.

The tasks include caring, teaching, assessing homework, painting, singing, sports activities and so on. Also, sometimes, other activities like Picnic, Zoo, fun world and swimming you may take them at where children often have fun to indulge. The Childcare program is perfect for first time volunteers. Or for those who have not worked within a Childcare center before. As a volunteer Childcare and assisting at Orphanage home itself signifies a noteworthy of duties for those joining this program. An expected list of tasks to do by the volunteer working for the orphanage program in Nepal contains.

As a Volunteer you will

 

  1. Grasping invaluable help by giving love and affection to the children.
  2. Assume as an older sibling to the children.
  3. Conducting them about personal hygiene and sanitation
  4. Teaching basic conversation English and helping to do their homework
  5. Engaging them in extracurricular activities
  6. Assisting administrative work with the Orphanage staff in accomplishing reports, manual or websites.

Orientation

VFN staffs or coordinator would pick you volunteers up from Airport. You may have choice to visit the office if you long, otherwise, the list of program details will be forwarded to you. The purpose of the program is to give generic information about Nepal such as culture, language, food, places to visit and things you do as a volunteer. The followings are included in the orientation:

  1. History, culture and traditional insight about Nepal
  2. Nepali language class for basic words of welcoming, greeting, expressions, as well as about important and handy words.
  3. Safety and health issues, as well as communication system in Nepal.
  4. Information and tour to Kathmandu’s most visited tourist spots.

Accommodation

In orientation you will be placed at guest house in Kathmandu where you may expect to share a room with one to three other volunteers. There will be single bed, of a bunk of beds with bedding in bedrooms. During the volunteering you will live at comfortable homstays in which electricity, running water and WiFi is basic and available. However, some rural homestays may not have electricity and running water during the dry season. To stay with the host family it is exciting as well as a huge opportunity to learn about the Nepalese’s’ way of life. Squat toilets are the standard in Nepal and you will not come across many western toilets. WiFi is available in the volunteer homestays or host family. Please note, if you are going in the winter be sure to pack a warm coat.

Meals

Volunteers are given Nepali foods or meals twice in a day in accordance with Nepali style and standard. Dal- Bhat Rice and lentil soup, Tarkari vegetables curry and Achar pickle and occasionally meat (thrice in a week) the common Nepali dish will be provided to all volunteers. Additional foods, besides this, volunteers should afford themselves. For drinking water, you are given two mineral bottles (one liter of two bottles) in a day, of which the total cost comes to be about US $5 dollar in a week, you should budget extra. If any of you have special dietary habits and requirement, please let us know when you do apply so that we could make arrangement for you. We do our best to well taking care of volunteers. Meanwhile, you should not expect to eat as we normally do at home.  We highly appreciate the flexibility of volunteers.

What should be the age of volunteers?
The minimum age should be 18 years. We need to talk with parents or guardian if you are below 18 year (16 or 17) There is no age limitation for maximum age, those mentally and physically efficiency for the programs..

How do I get Visa for Nepal?
You can get the visa on the spot when you arrive in Nepal, either at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) of Kathmandu or at road borders.

Why do I have to pay to Volunteer?
Volunteer for Nepal is non-profitable organization. Till now no grants from any organizations or donors. So the costs are to provide food and housing for volunteers, training, supervision and safety precautions as well as certain costs included in running the projects successfully. The cost varies depending on the programs.

What is included in the cost of Volunteering?
The cost covers various things depending on the project itself. Basically, included the following in the cost:
– Accommodations on your staying.
– Food (lunch & dinner)
– Airport pickup upon arrival and drop off.
– Orientation and training to familiarize volunteers with their surroundings and the work they will be doing.
– Sightseeing the most touristy area.

When do I have to pay full payment?
You can pay the program fee on the time of arriving and meeting with program coordinator.

How long do the programs last?
The first and second days of the program will be orientation and escorted for sightseeing, you can yourself explore some places and may do shopping as well. After all of this you will go to the placement for volunteer.

Do I need travel insurance?
It is mandatory to have a travel medical insurance.

What vaccination will I need?
Consult your doctor before flying to Nepal. These basic vaccinations are Tetanus, Hepatitis and Typhoid for your safety.  If you have altitude sickness, you should ask your doctor to prescribe proper medicines.

What skill and language are required?
There is no mandatory specific skill and language to volunteer. Basic english colloquial is enough. For the english teaching program you have to have writing and speaking English.

How safe is it to volunteer in Nepal?
Nepal is one of the safest destinations in terms of traveling and volunteering. There is no any organized terror groups who involve in violence and murder. Our all placements are located in very safe location in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Lamjung, all of our working location have police station.

What cost do I need to consider?
The cost you need to consider in addition to program fee, like flights, travel insurance, visa cost buying bottle of water, food during orientation, and spending money.

How can I communicate with my family back home?
Now these days Nepal also developing information and Technology quite speedily compare to other sectors. So you can communicate with your family and friends back home via mobile phone, internet, email etc.

Can I buy a Nepali sim card upon arrival?
Definitely you can buy Nepali sim card there are two cell phone companies Nepal Telecom and NCell have wide range of Network. It cost 2$ with few minutes credits. You need to have copies of passport size photos and a Xerox copy of your passport.
